Sweetleaf, 135 Kent Ave., Williamsburg.

There is this place on Kent Avenue in Williamsburg that makes the most surprising coffee I have ever had. I discovered it last autumn when my friend visited me from Virginia and I promised to take her someplace where they made good coffee.

I was surprised myself by how good it actually was, when I ordered a decaf soya latte and tasted it to find an unusual taste in my first sip. A slightly bitter taste that I could not recognise to begin with and that I was only able to put a name on on a different visit. I asked the barista about it and she told me it was nutmeg.

A sprinkle of nutmeg on that soya latte was enough to make me want it back on every cup of coffee from then on. I miss it.
